On the web, you’ll find that there are literally thousands of articles on looking good, and they pretty much all involve getting a new fashionable haircut. That’s cool and all, but what about us bald guys? We want to look good bald too. I’ve got a few years of experience under my belt as a bald guy at this point, so I put together this guide for guys who might be new to the club and are wondering how to look good bald themselves.
I personally went bald at the age of 20, you can read about my experience here. At the time I had a lot of questions – things like whether or not girls will like me anymore, what my friends and family will think, how my life will change now that I’m going bald. As you can imagine, everything worked out fine – life’s good, but it would’ve been nice to have that information at the time. It’s for that reason we put this site together: to answer those common concerns guys have when they start losing their hair. Todays post is answering a common request, how to look good bald.
The Champions Guide – How to Look Good Bald
Start Working Out
Do a google search on “good looking bald guys” or similar and you’ll notice something – literally every single one of them is well built. You don’t need to be completely yoked like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, but it’s important that you put on some muscle. I recommend the StrongLifts 5×5 program. It’s quick, effective, and simple.
Working out will result in substantial positive benefits to your appearance. It’s a known fact that women are drawn towards muscular men, but there are more subtle reasons to it than just “bigger muscles.” First – your jawline will improve. As the muscles in your neck grow, the jawline will clear up and be more visible. Second – your posture will improve. Having a good posture will just give you a more dominant, masculine presence that is one of any subliminal ways that will just make you look better.
If you take any one thing away from our how to look good bald guide, take away this – you absolutely need to be working out.
Groom Your Head and Face
The only existing guides on how to look good bald all say the same thing – shave your head. It’s not bad advice but it’s pretty misleading. You don’t have to shave your head, you can buzz it too. I personally buzz my head at a middle zero and buzz my face at a long zero every other day. It’s the best look for me, and everyone’s is different, so I encourage you to check out the mini guide on hairstyles for bald men before continuing to the next step.
Dress With Style
Learn about dressing bald at Bald Style: How to Dress if You’re Bald. If you’re too lazy to read that post, no worries – I outlined the main points below:
- Wear collars as much as possible
- Collars are great for bald guys because they help bring balance and framing to the face. Honestly – this is my go to, I almost exclusively wear collared shirts these days.
- Wear clothes that actually fit
- Guys have a tendency to wear clothes that are too big for them. This is bad. The stitching on your shoulders should be exactly at the end of the shoulder, not before or past it.
- Pants should not have any more than 2 crinkles near the ankles. They should for the most part be straight.
- Wear colors that match
- A novel concept, really – just wear colors that look good together. It’s reflects poorly on you and doesn’t look good when you put colors on that don’t match.
- Dress for the occasion
- Wedding? Don’t wear shorts and a T-shirt.
- Basketball game? Don’t wear a suit (unless you work for the team)
- Generally, just dress appropriately for where you’re going. I know it’s common advice to “overdress,” but I disagree. You can look good in any category of clothing, and it reflects well on you if you have enough social IQ to wear the right things to the right places.
Get a tan
You don’t need to have super dark skin, but you do need to not have pasty white skin. Being a pasty white or asian guy when you’re bald is not a good look. If you want to impress people with your appearance then you need to look healthy. Get outdoors and let nature do the rest. If you live in Seattle, go to a tanning salon. If you want to avoid the the health risks, there are creams that you just rub on your skin that make it darker over time. I don’t use them personally, I just go outside – but according to reviews, this is a good one.
Carry Yourself with Confidence
This will come naturally when you lift and improve your life in other aspects, but keep it in mind anyway. Chin up, shoulders back, back straight. Walk with confidence, act like you belong wherever you are. Rock your arms a little when you walk, learn to have some “swagger.” Try it out right now – pull your shoulders back and pump your chest out. You should literally feel more confident – it’s called power posing and it’s clinically shown to reduce anxiety and increase your sense of control. A true bald power move.
Take Care of Your Skin
You have a lot of skin showing now that you’re a bald guy, so it’s important that you take care of it. Cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize. Every day. Check out a kit like the Mens Trio Collection.
Conclusion: How to Look Good with A Shaved Head
In conclusion, you should know by now what it takes to look good with a shaved or balding head. It won’t happen overnight, but in time as you lift, tan, improve your style, groom your head, and start cleaning up your skin – you’ll start to notice a change. I’ve been following the advice I’ve written above and at this point I think I’m a pretty good looking bald fella.
